DiDi

Overview

The DIDI Project aims to develop and implement a digital identity solution for people in environments of poverty and informality, based on the notion of self-sovereign identity. The project empowers individuals by improving the control they have over their personal information, allowing them to use it as an instrument to reduce their poverty penalty, understood as the higher relative cost faced by people in situations of vulnerability to access goods and services due to the existence of informational asymmetry.

Challenge

Through the consolidation of a relevant, accessible and reliable digital identity, the project aims to reduce the penalty of poverty for the inhabitants of vulnerable neighborhoods and improve their opportunities for socioeconomic insertion in the fourth industrial revolution. The DIDI Project proposes to build a digital identity that certifies and validates social, civic and economic data, through the issuance of verifiable credentials, based on information certified by third parties (institutions or individuals).

Solution

A mobile application, developed in react-native and available for Android, is one of the key pieces of the platform. It is a wallet or document holder to receive, store and manage the verifiable credentials of the users. From the app, these credentials can also be shared with whoever the person wishes, both via a link to a website and via QR between two DiDi applications. In addition, the system is backed by a large architecture to provide support for the different participants of the ecosystem such as the credential issues and the validator entities. The stack, besides the react-native application, include backend modules developed in NodeJS and Java all running in the AWS infrastructure.
